From Rugged to Refined: 6 Ways To Wear The Yellow Boot

The classic yellow boot has been a wardrobe staple for decades, so why do we keep going back and what makes it so versatile? Stylist Alice Burnfield explores six ways to wear it, no matter what your style.

Look 1: Kicked Back and Relaxed

The whole feel of this outfit is nonchalant and understated. Pair the boots with a pair of casual joggers, simple white tee and a plaid shirt. Wear the boot laces loose (threading alternate holes works, or leave a few holes free from the top) and tuck the joggers behind the tongue for a great minimal-effort look. Yeah, it looks like you rolled out of bed – if everyone who rolled out of bed looked this relaxed and effortlessly put together.

Look 2: The Classic

“Classic” doesn’t have to mean mundane. The plain crew neck t-shirt and light-wash jeans in this outfit are a win-win combo, while the boots and rugged leather jacket gives it a stylish edge. Wear with the jacket collar turned-up slightly – and add a wool beanie if the weather denotes. A great look for any season, but a masculine classic to return to again and again.

Look 3: Outdoorsmanlook3

You can’t beat a classic plaid shirt. Style with the sleeves rolled up and an open collar for an easy, on-the-go outfit.

The cuffed hem on these khaki trousers gives it a sporty feel – great for biking or heading out on foot. Add some tan leather accessories to finish the look – we love a well-worn belt, leather backpack and utilitarian watch.

Look 4: Indie Style

If you like your trousers super-skinny, then this outfit is for you. Team a print shirt with a tonal sweater then stack the jeans right inside the boot for a modern, trend-driven look. Add a smart bomber to take you into evening.

LOOK 5: Countryside Cool

This is a preppy twist on a classic urban look. Layer a loose collared shirt under a textured knit, finishing off with a smart leather jacket to up the styling cred. The bold color of this jacket is perfect for standing out. Slim-cut jeans work best with this – cuff the hem neatly so they finish just at the top of the boot, creating a sharp silhouette.

Look 6: Dapper Cityslicker

Bring a refined twist to the classic boot with some laid-back tailoring that’s smart enough to take you from a gallery opening to a blues bar. The chambray shirt keeps it cool, while buttoning right up to the top brings a formal nod without needing to wear a tie. For a modern tapered-leg shape, roll the chinos up and pull down just over the ankle of the boot.
